Âpé Yakitori Bar. A taste of Japan

Combining intimacy, tradition and quality food, Âpé Yakitori Bar
has all the ingredients of a first-class Yakitori experience.

The charcoals have just been warmed for Taiyo Namba and the team behind Nagisa and Susuru Ramen & Gyoza, after they recently opened the doors to their new venue, ÂPÉ Yakitori Bar.

Located in the bustling Honeysuckle precinct, next door to Nagisa, ÂPÉ offers a unique and memorable Japanese experience based on tradition.

“All houses in Japan traditionally had an ‘irori’ [fire pit] in the middle and around this the way of life was formed,” says Namba.

“I often think there could be even better places to eat out and have fun. My team and I are lucky enough to be able to create such spaces.”

“At ÂPÉ, we’re focusing all our cooking on this ethos. Customers can see our chefs cooking over flames in the centre of the restaurant.”

Namba has lovingly compiled a tantalizing yakitori menu which boasts locally sourced cuts of wagyu, lamb, and chicken.

All skewers can be complemented with a choice of fruit infused signature cocktails, wine or negronis.

“The great thing about ÂPÉ is that you can come in for a bite to eat and a wine, or just try one of our cocktails,” says Namba. “The concept was to create an inviting environment for everyone with the option to have as much or little as you wish.”

Using natural elements, from mushroom wall panels to leather made from banana leaves, Namba together with architect Ben Berwick, have successfully created a warm space bringing together people and design.

Namba’s proud to see his dream come to fruition and can’t wait to share it with others.

“I love going out, eating good food and having fun with good company,” he says. “I often think there could be even better places to eat out and have fun. My team and I are lucky enough to be able to create such spaces.”

ÂPÉ’s menu will include flame grilled yakitori skewers and fruit infused cocktails; Nicolas Pedemonte is Head Chef at Newcastle’s latest dining venture.
