5 mins with Kate Corbet
Kate Corbet is ready to flex her management muscles at the new 24 hour Gym on King.
What is your fitness background?
For 15 years I worked as a trainer in different gyms including women’s only gyms and smaller personal training studios. I ran outdoor group training sessions, personal training and classes. More recently, I helped set up and manage a couple of F45 studios.
Our focus is on having fun
What excites you about Gym on King?
I love being the face of the business and meeting people. Getting to know clients is a great part of the job for me, because it means I can help them move towards their goals.
What is the gym’s vibe?
Our gym is about mixing things up. Our focus is on having fun and creating a community with vibrant staff. We want our members to know that we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Hanging out for a coffee in the café is just as important as the workouts.
What can clients expect?
From 5:30am until 7:30pm we’ll have classes, including functional training, yoga and mat Pilates. Our machines all have inbuilt technology to track workouts and heart rates, and members can access a database of workout programmes. We also have a beautiful outdoor workout area.
What are some of the benefits of fitness?
Mentally, exercise is so good for helping to improve your mood and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. Physically, fitness is great for controlling your weight, reducing the risk of serious illness and strengthening bones and muscles.
What fitness advice can you offer?
Find something you like doing and have a crack. If you don’t enjoy it, you’re unlikely to stick to it. Mix your training up regularly so you’re constantly challenged and keep seeing results. We encourage a combination of cardio and strength training.
What is your target market?
Everyone and anyone who’s keen to workout, no matter their fitness level.
