It wouldn’t be a Newcastle summer without a holiday edition.

Days by the water, sand between the toes and of course summer holidays exploring our picturesque coastline. Great food and wine are an important mix in our family’s summer festivities. Our region has never before been so well recognised for its gastronomical delights, all thanks to the 2023 Good Food Guide. At this time of year, our to do lists seem to grow longer and longer. Amongst the busyness, we’re passionate about supporting fellow local businesses. With the support of the City of Newcastle, it’s time to discover Darby Street. Regardless of the day of the week, it’s a heaven to shop, eat, play and live.

We are overjoyed to share the stories of the people and businesses behind this diverse and eclectic street.

This edition takes a very special look inside The Ridge, Nelson Bay, winner of several accolades at the Master Builders of Australia regional excellence awards. Not only is this an exceptional piece of architecture, but you may also be lucky enough to call this place home, for a short stay for you and 13 guests.

As I write, I sit as a victim of a very naughty elf on the shelf. Its steady hand and a borrowed eyeliner pencil added Harry Potter glasses and killer eyebrows to my appearance while I slept. The look on the faces of my daughter and nieces, priceless! Summer really is magical, perhaps it’s the moments of opportunity to experience the natural beauty in our own backyard, the excitement of Santa or the reflection of another year that has passed us by.
